E: Melbourne time
From before I left in November, I knew the first weeks of returning would be packed with settling, decision-making, agenda-setting, reunions, school, applying for next year’s master degree, travel journalism, sports and church. I was right. Before the end of week 1 this semester, the list of items to take of seemed endless. The different possible off-school activities with commitment pressure and a number of fellow human beings close to me were not given the time they deserved.Things changed.
I have felt truly blessed lately, as a lot of things have just fallen in place and much of what I had to do is taken care of. I have had time to experience more of Melbourne city with a downtown rate much much higher than passed semester.
I am currently in week 3. The time table is worked out. I only have two days of school and six contact hours. The reason is my third (out of three) subjects; Media Internship (see own story). Mondays I will do Monday Night Training (in Christianity). This will give me skills to teach others on what I believe. Wednesdays I play soccer, Thursdays I play volleyball, Fridays I sometimes go to Focus – the Christian group for international students. Saturdays will in some weeks be game day. I have not decided if I’ll play volleyball or soccer this year. If there is not too many clashes, I will do both.
My hair is now only 3 millimetres long over all after two friends, Kele and Radchel, cut my hair Saturday. Feedback from close and not so close acquaintances says that I look like David Beckham and/or Brad Pitt and that my hair feels soft as a wombat. Later that night I went to the Moomba Water Festival’s 50th anniversary. It had great fireworks from the river, rides, games, food and heaps of people. I came and left with my main group of international friends – primarily living (or used to live) at Chisholm. The day before had time to experience Moonlight Cinema festival; a big screen viewing of the award-winning Spanish-speaking “Motorcycle Diaries” under the clear sky with birds and the city in the background, as the sun had set as a huge, green hill, in the botanical gardens was filled with viewers. A typical Melbourne thing to do.
