E: Drafted - my essay and me
Today I was told that I am to be drafted for the Norwegian military service in January. I was supposed to go in fall of 2002, but applied for a deferral because of journalism college. The same strategy will be put into practice this time. First of all I plan to be in South-America in January/February 2005. Secondly I have another semester coming up in March. I should be all right, but technically they can force me home in a few months. If I then refuse, I’ll go to jail. The thing is that I’m not going to the army at all. The military service is mandatory for all men in Norway, but an alternative is to do social service for 14 months. That’s what I’ll do, but I still wanna study for some time (and eventually have them forget me in the major system).Monday I have an essay due. My task is to analyse Jackass the Movie through the theory of the grotesque and the carnival. Since Wednesday I’ve been trying really hard to put my newly studied knowledge onto sensible sentences in the frames of an essay. Not until late tonite, I have had any kind of break through. And I’m still struggling. I’m convinced and determined about getting done on time, but there are quite a few other things I need to accomplish by Monday.
Yesterday was a happier day. I talked to Eva-Maria, my extremely good friend (who I used to date (December 9th 2000 – October 17th 2003), for the first time in almost three months. It was soooo nice. She’s has been in Guatemala for two months for social work and Spanish.
